BIO
Scott Oaks is a musician and audio engineer based in Wellington, New Zealand, who is passionate about music technology, live performance/events, and the studio/recording process. He has worked as a stage manager/site crew member at events such as Matariki Ahi Kā, SlavFest and Newtown Festival and produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered artists including Adoneye, Midnight Caffeine, Selohrae, Marty G, and Murphy Bruning as well as his own projects. He is highly passionate about his work, bringing a creative and analytical approach to audio problem solving and production. Scott plays guitar in nu-metalcore band Flowers of Hades, as well as solo project Apathetic Existence. He previously worked for 10+ years as a venue manager in the hospitality industry and brings a casual but professional energy to his work.
ABOUT ME
I was born in London in the early 90's but moved back to New Zealand with my parents (both Kiwis) shortly afterwards. I spent the majority of my youth in Dunedin but also a decent amount of time in both Australia and France as my folks moved around a lot for work. Despite not coming from a particularly musical family I had strong affinity for music from a young age and after dabbling in several different instruments I picked up the electric guitar at 17 and have never looked back.
I've always been interested in music which pushes boundaries and challenges the preconceptions of what a genre can be. I have a profound passion for dark, dissonant and visceral sounds, which are what I try to produce in my bands Flowers of Hades and Apathetic Existence, but enjoy all genres and styles, and love discovering new artists.
Outside of music I really enjoy video and trading card games, trying new things, experiencing the world, and sipping a frosty cold beer. I am vegetarian and care a lot about equality, the environment and improving the planet for future generations. I currently live in Te Aro, Wellington, with my ever supportive partner Nicole, and our noisy cockatiel Mei.
